Wayne Rooney is set to return to DC United as a manager, after a brief spell as a player towards the end of his career. The Manchester United legend left Derby County at the end of the previous season after they went into serious financial distress and were hit by administration.

There have been a lot of comments about his decision to move to the MLS. Despite being relegated from the Championship to League One, Rooney’s stock has soared as a manager. He has been contacted by several top clubs, especially Everton, for a crack at their first team. However, he has decided to move out of Europe altogether.

Hernan Losada was sacked in April, the club has since been managed by interim coach Chad Ashton. However, their results have not improved and they have only been able to gain 17 points from as many games in the MLS.

The club is hopeful about a change in fortune now that Wayne Rooney is expected to take charge. The former England international will be adding to his 18-month spell in the capital, this time as a manager. And owing to his success with the Rams, there is hope that he can turn things around for DC United as well.

Rooney will be revealed as the new DC United manager in the coming days once all the formalities surrounding his appointment have been taken care of.
