Virat Kohli recently posted a reel on Instagram where he slammed a fan for privacy intrusion. The batter shared this video, where a fan can be seen capturing minute details of Kohli’s room. He posted this on his social media. Kohli got a hold of this video and requested the fans to not repeat this behavior. He further added that “celebrities are not commodities for entertainment“.
He wrote in the caption “I understand that fans get very happy and excited seeing their favourite players and get excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that. But this video here is appalling and it’s made me feel very paranoid about my privacy. If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all?? I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment.”
Kohli didn’t get some privacy in his room which irked him the most. The former skipper of India has always appreciated the love and support that his fans show to their favourite players, however, this was beyond expectations.
The cricketer’s wife Anushka Sharma is furious as well due to intrusive privacy. She described the entire incident as disgraceful and disturbing. However, there isn’t any update if the fan apologized to Virat Kohli. The video is of Perth Hotel where the Indian players stayed for their match against South Africa. Crown Hotel issued an apology letter to Kohli and removed the person who was a part of this incident.
The ICC said it was “incredibly disappointed by the gross invasion of privacy that Kohli had suffered. We continue to work with event hotels and security providers to ensure that this remains an isolated incident and player privacy is fully respected at all times.”
