Tottenham are set to utilize their chance to sign Dejan Kulusevski as soon as possible this summer. Spurs have two windows in which to sign the Sweden winger after signing him on an 18-month, £8 million loan deal from Juventus in January.

At the end of the season, they have the option to sign the 21-year-old permanently for £25 million. That option would be extended for another year, but Tottenham would be obligated to sign him for £30 million if he appeared in at least half of Spurs’ Premier League games for at least 45 minutes next season and the club qualified for the Champions League.

While signing him this summer means a larger upfront transfer cost, it also eliminates the possibility of the higher amount coming in after next season for a player who has already demonstrated what he can bring to Antonio Conte’s squad.

Kulusevski has been a tremendous hit for Conte, scoring twice and assisting on five goals in his ten Premier League appearances.

    About the Agreement

Tottenham would be required to buy Kulusevski for £33.5 million at the end of his loan stay if he appeared in more than half of their games, according to the current arrangement.

Following his recent performances, Antonio Conte’s team is anxious to move quickly and take advantage of the cheaper alternative to sign the winger. The permanent arrival of Kulusevski will cast doubt on the long-term prospects of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, both of whom have struggled for starting duties at Spurs this season.

Bergwijn hinted at a possible departure while on international duty with the Netherlands last week, despite only starting four league games this season. The 24-year-old has been associated with Ajax and might go in quest of regular first-team action as he tries to keep his World Cup dreams alive in Qatar.
