Take-Two is one of the largest and most renowned game publishers in the industry, with publishing labels such as 2K, Rockstar, and Private Division; the company’s stable of acclaimed franchises includes Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, BioShock, NBA 2K, XCOM, and Civilization, among many others.

Between now and March 2024, the business expects to release more than 40 games for console and PC, including 23 “immersive core” games (like GTA, BioShock, and 2K sports games); six Private Division games; four “mid-core” games (think WWE Battlegrounds); and nine ports or remasters.

Let’s take a look at all upcoming Take-Two Games

    The Quarry

The Quarry is a spiritual successor to Supermassive’s narrative-driven PS4 exclusive Until Dawn from 2015. According to game director Will Byles, The Quarry is a teen horror narrative set in the forests of Upstate New York with nine playable characters, all of whom can die based on player decisions.

In The Quarry, Supermassive is capitalizing on the social aspects of Until Dawn by integrating a local co-op, with each player controlling a different character. Based on player decisions and character deaths, the story will last approximately 7–10 hours.

    Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Marvel’s Midnight Suns are the latest strategy game from famed tactics developer Firaxis, and it’s based on the same-named narrative from Marvel Comics in the early 1990s. You play as The Hunter, a fully customizable superhero who battles with the Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America), X-Men (Wolverine, Magik), and other Marvel characters such as Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, and Blade.

Midnight Suns is more than “Marvel XCOM”; it’s “easily as tactical as XCOM,” but faster-paced, with a new card-based system that adds a layer of customization and randomness to combat, according to creative director Jake Solomon. Despite the addition of a deckbuilding component, Midnight Suns will not feature randomized treasure boxes, though there will be a cosmetic-only outfit marketplace.

Outside of combat, players can form bonds with other heroes in the Abbey, their home base. By interacting with characters at the Abbey, you can get access to new clothes and powers. Characters, on the other hand, cannot be romanced.

The game was supposed to come out in March, but it’s now been pushed back until the second half of 2022.

    Kerbal Space Program

The sequel to Take-Two’s Kerbal Space Program adds additional spacecraft, parts, and facilities, as well as quality-of-life enhancements including a mobile launch tower and a skippable launch countdown. KSP 2 promises to be more approachable to new players while maintaining a high level of challenge for space sim fans.

KSP 2 was originally in development at Star Theory, which has since closed its doors. The sequel’s development was shifted in-house to Private Division’s Intercept Games in 2020, with many key developers joining the new business. At the time, the business manoeuvrings around the shift were divisive: “Game Publisher Cancels Contract With Developer, Then Attempts to Poach Its Entire Team,” according to a Bloomberg headline describing the upheaval.

    Tales from the Borderlands 2

In 2022, a new Tales from the Borderlands will be released. According to Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford, the new Tales will have “all-new characters and storylines set in the Borderlands universe.” Gearbox has been working on the project “secretly” for “many years,” he said.

Pitchford teased the game at PAX East in April, but a formal announcement won’t happen until the summer. The first Tales from the Borderlands was an episodic adventure game produced by Telltale and released between 2014 and 2015. It took place between Borderlands 2 and 3 and introduced new characters to the Borderlands universe, including Rhys and Vaughn.

Gearbox has brought production of the next Tales in-house now that that edition of Telltale Games is no longer around.

    2NFL Arcade Game

“A multi-year partnership involving numerous upcoming video games,” 2K and the NFL announced in 2020. The first of these games was supposed to come out in 2021, but it’s now been pushed out to 2022 or later.

These will be “non-simulation football games,” according to 2K, centred around “fun, approachable, and social experiences” that cater to “a more casual market.” The games, on the other hand, will include genuine NFL players.

    2K Sports Game

We may expect additional entries in 2K’s normal sports series, like NBA 2K and WWE 2K, in addition to the new NFL games. In 2021, the business also signed a multi-year arrangement with Tiger Woods to be the new face of PGA Tour 2K.

While new games in each of these three series have yet to be officially announced, 2K’s licensing relationships and previous release schedules indicate that new titles are almost probably in the works.

    31st Union

31st Union, helmed by Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey, is working on a new “multiplayer character-action game.” The new IP will be the developer’s first since it was founded in Silicon Valley in 2019. According to GamesIndustry.biz, the company has recently created a second facility in Spain as a result of 2K’s acquisition of Elite3D.

Condrey co-directed Call of Duty: WW2 before departing Sledgehammer. As a crucial part of EA’s now-defunct Visceral Games, the seasoned developer also helped bring Dead Space to reality.

    BioShock 4

BioShock fans have been waiting a long time since the finale of BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea in 2014, when they last visited the intriguing realms of Columbia and Rapture. Following numerous speculations and rumours, 2K has confirmed that a new BioShock would be released in 2019.

Cloud Chamber, a new studio made up of former BioShock developers (including BioShock and BioShock Infinite art director Scott Sinclair) and newcomers, is working on the next instalment in the immersive first-person shooter series. Longtime Firaxis developer Kelley Gilmore leads the team, with BioShock veteran Hoagy de la Plante serving as creative director.

    Die Gute Fabrik

In March, Die Gute Fabrik, a Danish indie studio, secured a deal with Private Division to build a new story-driven adventure game.

“We won’t be able to tell you much more about the project for a while,” Die Gute Fabrik CEO Hannah Nicklin said with the news, “but we’re delighted to build on all we learned from Mutazione.”

The magazine is a 2019 “mutant soap opera” game by the company. Sportsfriends, released in 2014, was described as a “dynamic and addictively deep local multiplayer game” in our review.

    Grand Theft Auto 6

Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar confirmed in early 2022, will be the sixth instalment in Take-Two’s Biggest franchise. While Rockstar only confirmed the development of GTA 6 this year, we first heard it was in the works in 2020, while the project has most likely been in the works since the release of Red Dead 2 in 2018, if not Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013.

Rockstar stated that “active development” is “well underway” as part of the announcement. GTA 6 has yet to be given a release date, while various sources claim Rockstar is aiming for 2024-2025.

    Ken Levine’s new game

Ghost Story Games was founded in 2017 by 12 former Irrational Games developers, including Ken Levine, the creator of BioShock. Though we know it’s working on a story-driven, “immersive sci-fi game with RPG features,” the studio, led by Levine, has yet to reveal its first project.

The story will be produced using Levine’s “Narrative Legos” design philosophy, which allows stories to be constructed from hundreds of interconnected narrative parts. The architecture would potentially allow Ghost Story to achieve its goal of creating “a fluid narrative that is broadly replayable and extremely adaptive to player choice,” according to the company.

Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake

Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne are being remade by Rockstar and Remedy. Remedy, the studio behind the original games, will return to work on the remakes, with Rockstar providing funding and distribution. Remedy’s in-house Northlight engine will be used to create the remakes.

While the firms haven’t revealed much, considering the project’s budget of “following a typical Remedy AAA-game production,” we can reasonably presume they will be full remakes.

According to Remedy, the remakes, which will be bundled as a single game, are still in the “idea development stage.”
