    Spain beat Switzerland to progress to the semi-finals of EURO 2020

    The breathtaking stunner between Spain and Switzerland came to an end with the victory crown on Spain’s head, by a score of 3-1 in the penalty shootout. The 90 minutes were drawn by both of the teams by 1 all, and extra time was not able to give a specific result as well.

    Both the teams played excellently and showed their efficiency throughout the game, but as per the rules of sports, one has to be a winner. And Spain laughed the last smile. An early goal came in Spain’s favor in the 8th minute which was, unfortunately, an own goal, scored by Denis Zakaria.

    The Performance of the Teams

    The match was on 1-0 in Spain’s for till the halftime, and also till the 67th minute. On the 68th minute Xherdan Shaqiri netted the second goal of the match, and the first goal for Switzerland, equalizing the score on 1-1. Both the teams performed excellently, and there was a tough fight in between the Spanish forward line, and Swiss defense line.

    The defense wall of Switzerland was hard to break, and Spain was not ready to lose. Also, Swiss goalkeeper, Yann Sommer made some outstanding saves, when the path of scoring a goal was clear for Spain.

    The match went par the 90 minutes remaining 1 all, and the additional time was also in vain. Switzerland also created chances for scoring their second goal and take a lead, but the Spanish defense did their work accurately.

    The Penalty Shootout

    The penalty shootout began, with the Spanish captain, Sergio Busquets taking the first shot. He did his work perfectly as the goalkeeper dived on the other side, and the ball was hit on the adjacent side. But unfortunately, the ball hit the bar and came back.

    Spain ultimately pocketed the victory, by winning the shootout with a score of 3-1. However, Switzerland’s effort in the match was never the less, especially of Yann Sommer’s. They got eliminated from the tournament but marked themselves as the dark horse of EURO 2020.

    Spain is now onto the semi-finals of the Euro Cup and will be looking forward to emerging victoriously in their upcoming matches and winning their 4th EURO Cup title.
