Tesla cars have just gotten a little bit faster, thanks to a new partnership between the electric car company and Sega to bring Blue Blur himself to its line of vehicles. Sega and Tesla have announced that Sonic the Hedgehog, released in 1991, will be available on Tesla’s in-car gaming system.
Owners only need to plug in a USB controller to play games on the Tesla in-car screen. Just remember not to play while driving. On the new Tesla Model X and Model S cars, Sonic the Hedgehog joins a growing list of games that includes Cuphead and The Witcher 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog was first launched in June 1991 for the Sega Genesis. Sonic was created as a rival to Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros., and it was recognized for its fast-paced action and Sonic’s out-of-control attitude.
The original game was available on about every platform imaginable, including current gaming consoles, iPod Nanos, iOS and Android, and, most recently, Tesla automobiles.
Sonic had a big week last week. We got our first peek at the Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel at The Game Awards, including a glimpse of Idris Elba’s Knuckles. Sega also unveiled a first peek at Sonic Frontiers, which will see the series’ gameplay evolve into an “open-zone” adventure.
Several games, including Cuphead and The Witcher 3, have become available to play via Tesla over the years. Cuphead, at the very least, could only be played while parked or charging, which is self-evident.
The UK government finally announced plans last month to make playing video games while driving illegal, at least while using a cellphone. Sonic has been busy lately, and he made two appearances at the Game Awards last week. We got our first look at Sonic Frontiers, which includes the series’ “first-ever open zone,” as well as a new trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film.
