Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer seemed to have a perfect year in 2022. He has become the leading Indian scorer in international cricket. In the recent test match, his and Ashwin’s run stand of 71 runs helped India get to the victory. He scored 29 runs in the game.
His sheer consistency outlived some popular batters like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. With him becoming an international run scorer, seems that Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s reign has finally ended.
He amassed a total of 1,609 international runs at an average of 48.75. He ended the year with one century and 14 half-centuries and his best being 113*. In the five test matches, that he was featured in, he scored 422 runs in eight innings at an average of 60.28 and four fifties. His best score in the test was eight runs in less than a century.
Iyer played 17 ODIs this year where he gathered 724 runs at an average of 55.69. In this format, he mustered one century and six half-centuries in his 15 innings. His best was an unbeaten 113. In the T20I format, he gathered 463 runs at an average of 35.61 at a strike rate of 141.15. He mustered four half centuries with his best score being an unbeaten 74. He’s followed by Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, and skipper Rohit Sharma.
Internationally, Iyer is the third-highest run-scorer in international cricket. The first one is Pakistan’s Babar Azam who scored 2,423 runs at an average of 52.67. Seven centuries and 17 half-centuries came from his bat. Bangladeshi batter Litton Das is second on the list as he could score 1,927 runs at an average of 40.02 smashing three centuries and 14 half-centuries.
Since 2011, Kohli has scored the most international runs (country-wise), a total of eight times. Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma have been featured in this category just once.
