The heartbreaking news of Sergio Ramos leaving his 16 years of Club Real Madrid, came on June 16. He is going to leave the La Liga giants soon after his contract expires at the end of this month, the club announced on Wednesday.
Farewell to Sergio Ramos
However, Madrid has arranged a farewell ceremony for the 35-year-old, who was a longtime captain of the club, and the program will take place in front of the president of the club, Florentino Perez on Thursday.
Though the Madrid superstar, Ramos wanted a two-year new agreement to continue playing to his club, according to various sources, Perez was strict in his decision and was not ready to break his policy of finalizing only a one-year contract with the 30 years players.
Consultations had been going on between these two since 2020, which concluded in June 2021, as none of them was ready to adjust. Though some sources also state that Ramos didn’t want a pay rise to stay in the club.
Next Destination for Ramos
Overall, Sergio Ramos scored 101 goals in his 671 appearances for Real Madrid CF. He has not even disclosed his next destination, or possibly where he could go. Fans are eagerly waiting for an answer from Ramos regarding this, but according to some reports, he will probably not say about his next station, in the farewell ceremony, on Thursday. Yet, sources from ESPN, state that Manchester City is likely to sign him in, but there are other options as well.
The Premier League Champions are still ready to offer him a two-year deal, till summer 2023. In perspective to that, counting upon his performance, he could also continue for a third season at the club, or can also decide to join New York City FC, owned by the City Football group.
The Titles
Ramos is 35 years of old at present, but still, he can perform better than a 28 to the 30-year-old player. In 2005, Madrid signed Ramos, for 27 million pounds. He became one of the important members of the side and spent 16 years at the Santiago Bernabeu. In this span, he won four Champions League, five La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, two Copa del Reys, three European Super Cups, and four Spanish Super Cups.
Ramos appeared only 21 times last season for Madrid in all the competitions, and the club concluded without a trophy. They missed out on the league titles to one of their greatest rivals, Atletico Madrid, on the season’s last day.
