The Spanish football club giants Real Madrid are reportedly targeting to sign the 22-year-old AC Milan’s Portuguese winger Rafael Leao, who was the best player in the recently concluded Italian Serie A.
Recently, the Italian daily sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Real Madrid would be ready to spend 128 million euro to sign the AC Milan left-winger Rafael Leao.
Leao joined the Italian club AC Milan in August 2019. His present contract will expire in June 2024, while I Rossoneri wants to keep the Portuguese talent in the squad at least till 2026. Also, Milan are unlikely to put any serious attention on the bids, which are lower than 150 million euro.
Who is Rafael Leao?
While AC Milan finally ended their more than a decade wait for the Serie A trophy by finishing as the champions in the Serie A 2021/22 season, Rafael Leao played a massive role for the Red and Blacks.
In the Serie A 2021/22, Leao not only finished as the joint fourth most assist provider in the competition with 10 assists, but he was also Milan’s joint top-scorer with 11 goals. So, there is no doubt why he won the Most Valuable Player award at the end of the Serie A 2021/22.
In the complete 2021/22 season, the Portuguese footballer recorded 14 goals and 12 assists in 42 appearances for the club. Apart from finishing as the joint-most scorer for the AC Milan in this complete season, Leao also concluded as the leading assist provider for his team.
Why can Real Madrid go for the Portuguese youngster?
Real Madrid are eyeing to catch the young talents this upcoming summer. Their long-time target, the 23-year-old French star Kylian Mbappe ultimately denied Los Blancos’ offer and stayed in the French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for an ultra-lucrative deal. Also, the English Premier League club Manchester City already confirmed their signing of 21-year-old Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.
So, it will be no shocker if Los Blancos go aggressively for Rafael Leao. The Whites have a fantastic season in 2021/22, where their forwards have performed strongly, including experienced Karim Benzema’s unstoppable performances and youngsters’ incredible support. However, the Spanish club are looking to strengthen their future, and Leao has the potential to become a future superstar.
As Mbappe and Haaland both are not coming to Madrid soon, Los Blancos may become desperate to sign this fresh Portuguese talent.
