NVIDIA DLSS 3 stood out as the next iteration of the Deep Learning Super Sampling technology, which made its debut back in 2018. This was only one of the numerous announcements made during the special GeForce Beyond presentation.

The Optical Flow Accelerator hardware feature found in the GeForce RTX 4000 series GPUs is utilised by the current iteration of DLSS. In order to create fresh frames on the GPU and even guarantee performance acceleration in CPU-bound game scenarios, NVIDIA claims that this passes pixel motion data from succeeding frames to the DLSS 3 Frame Generation neural network.

NVIDIA’s VP of Applied Deep Learning Research Bryan Catanzaro noted that although the Optical Flow Accelerator was initially released with the Turing architecture, it has significantly improved with Ada Lovelace.

As a result, older GeForce RTX graphics cards from the 2000 or 3000 series won’t support DLSS 3. The information also led NVIDIA users to wonder whether the 35 games with DLSS 3 support will also have DLSS 2 support.

Reflex will also soon be introduced to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Cyberpunk 2077, and SUPER PEOPLE, and it will be available when Overwatch 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide are released.
