Thousands of fans gathered at Wembley Stadium for the first time in 30 years as the team tried to regain their promotion to the top flight of British football after 23 years of exile.
Fans also flocked to Nottingham itself as the city’s pubs, including the boot room next to the city ground, were filled with Reds fans cheering for the team throughout the game.
Both fought to participate in the game, as a result of which the match was a fast-paced and desperate encounter.
Nottingham Forest was more determined about the two teams, investigating Huddersfield’s defenses and trying to get through them.
Forest almost gained control of the match during the 11th minute, when Ryan Yates scored a free-kick right next to the post.
Yates approached again in the 20th minute with a shot at Huddersfield’s midfield line, but speculative strikes from outside the box were widespread.
Nottingham Forest continued to attack Huddersfield’s goal but slowed down as half-time progressed. However, Huddersfield swiftly played a chance towards the end of the half.
When Sorba Thomas ran through the Forest Defense in the 33rd minute, they made little progress, but only for his shot saved by Brice Samba.
Danny Ward also approached Terriers when he missed a corner in the 38th minute. However, it was Forest who led just before the halftime.
James Garner’s ball was pushed into the net by Huddersfield’s Levi Colwill to reach the scoreline of 1-0 in the forest.
Huddersfield was eager to return to the game and began to beat Forest’s backline in the second half. Nonetheless, Forest continued to solidify the game.
The match after an hour
After an hour, the game continued to change and both sides had a chance. Huddersfield struggled to get back to the game, and Forrest tried to put it out of reach.
Huddersfield’s Harry Toffolo repelled a potential VAR penalty in the 73rd minute to please fans of Wembley and Nottingham Forest.
Terrier began to put pressure on the defense of the forest but was useless as the Reds maintained their victory.
