Manchester United would like to remodel rather than rebuild Old Trafford after they appointed a consultant team to come up with a master plan for the project. Even after choosing architects Populous and management consultants Legends International, who were both included in developing the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, it’s clear that Manchester United would prefer to remain within the existing footprint and revamp the 122-year old venue.
Manchester United Takes a Step Further To Redevelop the Legendary Old Trafford
It came out last month that bulldozing Old Trafford and rebuilding it from the roots is one of the options to be relied on in case the upgrade option is too high, and the club remains open-minded. But reports suggest, that the redevelopment will be more oriented towards modernisation and potential expansion, and the aim would be to ‘preserve the identity and heritage of Old Trafford.’
Expectantly the master plan will be made within months, the overall project will take years to wrap up as part of chairman Joel Glazer’s promise of renewed investment in the club infrastructure. Manchester United are also revamping its Carrington training base and has appointed the KSS group to establish a master plan.
A club statement read,
“Manchester United has appointed a team of leading consultants to begin work on creating a masterplan for the redevelopment of Old Trafford.”
The statement further revealed that Legends International and Populous, both of which have a wealth of stadium development experience from across the globe will lead the team. Work will kick off immediately on building options of Old Trafford and studying their feasibility, with the focus to massively increase the can experience.
The statement concluded,
“Fans will be at the heart of the process starting with a meeting between the consultants and the Manchester United fans’ advisory board later this month. A similar process is still under way in relation to the club’s training facilities, with KSS appointed to develop a master plan for an expanded, state-of-the-art facility for the men’s, women’s and academy team.”
