Chelsea’s Malang Sarr joins Monaco on a season loan. The 23-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Blues since joining from Nice on his five-year deal in 2020. It is now more or less confirmed that the French international is going to leave Premier League and step foot in Ligue 1.
The Frenchman has recently found himself building up the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have moved on this summer, but Kalidou’s Koulibaly has arrived from Napoli, meaning captain Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new deal and Sarr seems ready for his time at Thomas Tuchel’s side.
The move was completed in view of a permanent £10m move next summer, with Malang Sarr turning down the option of signing with new Premier League boy Fulham.
Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season and have signed several deals to improve their fortunes.
Takumi Minamino and Breel Embolo are highlights of the additions from Liverpool and Borussia Monchengladbach respectively, while Sarr is the latest in a string of signings.
Malang Sarr in this regard of his move to Monaco, leaving Chelsea
Malang Sarr was a first-team regular for Nice at the age of 17 before joining Chelsea.
He found playing time limited last season and his fortunes did not seem to improve this year and was granted a temporary move.
Chelsea still looking for another centre back and is in negotiations with Leicester regarding Wesley Fofana.
The Blues have already made two bids for Fofana, the second being valued at around £65m. Leicester has publicly said the defender is not for sale, but it is believed a fee of over £80m may change their minds.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has told Fofana that staying at Leicester would be his option if he wants to be in the France squad for the World Cup.
