The French champion Lille defeats Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 1-0 in the Champions Trophy to win the cup for the first time in history. The Lille midfielder Xeka is the scorer from the winning side. This Portuguese star smashed a sensational strike from the penalty edge to score the only goal for Lille.
Jocelyn Gourvennec, his coach would be supremely happy to lift the trophy in his first game. He replaced Christophe Galtier, taking the charge of Lille in the offseason. The latter has joined Nice, after guiding Lille to not something very significant.
Xeka’s Sensational Goal
The only goal came from the Portuguese midfielder Xeka as who received the release from Burak Yilmaz. His supremely intricate strike from the penalty edge baffled goalkeeper Keylor Navas, to make its entry to the top corner right before the interval.
Good Fight from PSG
PSG though gave a tough fight to the champions. Julian Draxler seemed to create a great chance in the 75th minute. Abdou Diallo would have to think why he couldn’t level up the score for Pochettino’s side midway through the second half of the game. He headed Icardi’s strike wide from three yards away.
However, it was the Lille in the end who continued to hold the smile on their faces.
French League on its Way
Last season, Lille witnessed a terrific win against PSG where they didn’t concede a goal. The scenario is the same this year too, despite the auctioning of backup goalkeeper, the French star Mike Maignan to AC Milan. The French League is all set to kickstart from this Friday.
PSG will be visiting Troyes this Saturday. On the other hand, Lille will be at Metz this coming Sunday. Fans are eager to see the counter.
