    Lalrindika Ralte announces retirement from professional football

    Former captain of East Bengal, Lalrindika Ralte, popularly known as Dika has officially announced his retirement from professional football. The attacking midfielder last played for Kashmir FC in the I-league and made his decision to leave professional football on February 12, 2022, on Saturday.

    The 29-year-old former footballer came from Mizoram and started his journey back in 2004 at the IFA Academy. In his initial phase, he signed his first professional contract with Churchill Brothers. He also played for Goan for 4 years, from 2009 to 2012. Following that, Dika moved to East Bengal and became one of the favorites of millions.

    Lalrindika Ralte regarding his career

    In a recent interview, Lalrindika Ralte said regarding his career that, when he was in the IFA Academy, they were divided into two groups. Those two groups were East Bengal and Mohun Bagan fans respectively. Ever since those days, he had the wish to play for East Bengal.

    In ISL, the midfielder also played for Mumbai City FC, along with ATK and Northeast United. His career spanned over 17 years, and calling it off, was indeed a difficult decision for him, he said. Also, the footballer stated that COVID19 is a huge factor behind his retirement at an early age, as he can’t stay in the bio-bubble for more.

    Also, Ralte has stated that in his post-retirement phase, he aspired to open a football academy in his hometown, and also aspired to take up the coaching role afterward. He said that he doesn’t want to entirely retire from the world of football.
