As match number 32 got completed in the Indian Premier League, fans saw a pure dominance from Kolkata Knight Riders, over Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 2-time IPL champion KKR registered a victory against RCB with 9 wickets remaining.
The match
RCB won the toss batted first. However, the batsmen were unable to deliver for long and got out soon. Prasidh Krishna gave KKR an early breakthrough with the wicket of Virat Kohli. Also, two destructive batsmen AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell were not able to stay in the crease for long. Devdutt Padikkal was the highest run-scorer from RCB with 22 of 20 balls.
KKR bowled exceptionally well through the innings and dismissed the entire red army within 92. In reply, the two openers of KKR including Shubhman Gill and debutant Venkatesh Iyer brilliantly led their team to victory within 10 overs. Like bowling, they even dominated more in their batting.
Performance by KKR
Kolkata was facing a hard time in the first half of the IPL. They played 7 matches out of which they won only in 2 of them. They finished second last before the postponement of the league. The head coach of the franchise, Brendon McCullum, earlier said that KKR will be in a new form in phase 2 of the IPL. And indeed fans saw a new form of them who dominated the team which is currently residing in the top 3 in the points table.
The bowling unit was indeed marvelous with the significant efforts of Chakravarthy, Ferguson, and Russell. Also, Gill and star debutant Iyer produced devastating batting scoring 48 of 36 with 6 fours and 1 six and 41 of 27 with 7 fours and 1 six respectively.
It was indeed a dream debut for Iyer with having the opportunity to play for KKR and proving himself so efficiently in his first chance. Overall the whole unit did well, and Varun Chakravarthy was given the man of the match award for his tight bowling of 3 wickets in 4 overs conceding 13 runs with an economy of 3.25.
