IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad is parting ways with its head coach Tom Moody after the team couldn’t perform well in IPL 2022. On Saturday, it got confirmed that Brian Lara will be the new coach for SRH. The appointment got confirmed today via SRH’s Twitter handle.
Lara had been a part of the team last year as a strategic advisor and batting coach in IPl 2022. He has even worked with the present players of SRH so there shouldn’t be problems in managing the team.
It’s the first time for Brian Lara as a coach of an IPL team as well as that of a T20 team. As a head coach, he should be able to bring the best resources with him to the squad. He will be monitoring the players of West indies and may try to rope them in the franchise as well. Moody was signed by SRH in 2013 and under him, the franchise won the title cup in 2016. However, under him, the team didn’t perform well in the last two years.
The team management has trusted Brian Lara with the head coach’s duty. Since this is his first time as a head coach, he will be taking assistance from other members of the coaching staff as well. Dale Steyn, the bowling coach, and Muttiah Muralitharan the spin bowl and strategic coach will have to work together hard to decide on a good future for the franchise.
Why did SRH choose Brian Lara over Tom Moody?
Tom Moody has been serving the franchise since 2013 and his contract was up for renewal this year. Under his guidance, the team underperformed and the team even had a fallout with former skipper David Warner who was removed from the team in 2021. He won’t be a part of SRH’ s team-building sessions in January- February after IPL 2023 Auctions.
He was in charge of the team’s auction policies. Umran Malik was a hit but Abdul Samad was a miss. Kane Williamson was a skipper and had his worst season. SRH lost 8 matches and won 6. the new head coach will try his best to change things in the upcoming season.
