Fans got to see a breathtaking showdown between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at Sheikh Zayed Stadium. This is one of the highest-scoring matches in IPL 2021 and also the highest-scoring match itself in the second phase of the Indian Premier League till now. The face-off showed the talents of some young talents and it was raining fours and sixes. The match was a perfect example of why it is called the Incredible Premier League.
The match
At first, it was Rajasthan who opted to bowl first. Though initially, it seemed like Sanju Samson’s decision of bowling first is wrong as CSK batters were explosive to the ball, especially during the last part of the innings. Both the openers were good at the start of the innings. Though Du Plessis got out at 25 of 19 balls. Also, Moeen Ali played good innings of 21 of 17 with a six and a four.
However, CSK’s young star Ruturaj Gaikwad was till the end of the first innings where he scored a magnificent hundred in just 60 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes. This was an incredible knock from the Ruturaj and he finished with a last-ball six to Mustafizur Rahman scoring 101 from 60 balls. Also, Jadeja’s fast scoring 32 from 15 balls helped CSK to reach a total of 189 with the loss of 4 wickets.
Performance from Rajasthan Royals
It was a batting pitch and it was speculated that CSK would win the match with ease, especially after that magnificent century Gaikwad. However, proving everyone wrong the openers of Rajasthan Royals were more explosive than their openers. Evin Lewis 27 of 12 and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 50 runs off just 21 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. They put up the highest power-play score of the season which is 81 in 6 overs.
After the openers, Shivam Dube also played a terrific knock of 64 of 42 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Rajasthan Royals were purely dominated by CSK by their batting and chased down the total in just 17.3 overs. Though the man of the match award is generally given to a player from the winning team, but due to the marvelous performance of Gaikwad with a century, he was given the play of the match award.
With this win, they are still alive in the tournament and have a chance to qualify for the finals. All they have to do is to win their remaining two matches with a good run rate, and their contenders including PBKS, KKR, and MI need to lose.
