Eden Gardens witnessed its first match in this ICC World Cup in between the Netherlands and Bangladesh where Netherlands picked up the win with ease. Netherlands have caused one surprise in this World Cup when the defeated they gigantic South African team, and this time they have defeated Bangladesh who has a reputed name in cricket as well. Though Netherlands has hardly any chances to qualify for the knockouts but defeating the reputed names in the World Cup is always a gain.
Netherlands defeating Bangladesh by a good margin
Though it was uncertain about who will win the match, but Bangladesh in general beared the upper hand considered their reputation in international cricket greater than the Netherlands. However in this match, Netherlands not only beat the odds, but also defeated Bangladesh by a decent margin of 87 runs. Several of the batters from the Netherlands contributed to the total along with the skipper Scott Edwards who took his team to 229 with a well-made half century.
Bangladesh coming to bat didn;t stand strong against the bowling of the Netherlands and eventually got all out 142. Only Mehdi Hasan from Bangladesh put up a little fight however he got out as well. The Netherland bowlers took wickets in frequent intervals eventually getting their opposition all out and earning the victory by 87 runs.
More Eden Gardens’ matches to come
As mention, Eden Gardens witnessed its first match of this World Cup in the likes of Bangladesh and Netherlands and there are also several other mouthwatering matches to come. And the most important among the is the match between India and South Africa who are the top contenders to win this year’s World Cup. India has been in brilliant form in both batting as well as bowling department and on the other hand, there are very few teams who stand a chance against the destructive batting line up of South Africa.
Coming to South Africa, several of their batters have been in breathtaking form starting from Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klassen, Aiden Markram, David Miller and all. Besides their bowling department is also doing well in the likes of Rabada, Ngidi, Maharaj, etc. India being the host are eventually the hot favorites to win the tournament and are yet to be beaten in this World Cup.
They have shown efficiency in batting and have chased down the targets in all of their games. Besides, their bowling department has also been decent. It is to be seen how things go when these two giants meet at the iconic Eden Gardens.
