Everyone got surprised when in the match between India and Newzealand last Sunday, Rohit Sharma was sent to bat at number 3. As KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan stepped out to open the innings, questions were raised as to why Rohit’s place was sacrificed for a newcomer. People got curious to know who made this decision. It seems finally we have the answer to the last question. After a lot of speculation of whether it’s Virat Kohli or Ravi Shastri who took the decision, the real reason seems to have come out.

MS Dhoni Initiated the Idea to send Rohit at 3

Reports suggest the plan was proposed by the team mentor MS Dhoni and then jointly agreed by the team members. One source in the Indian team confirmed that the idea was first put forward by the mentor MS Dhoni and then seconded by the skipper and everybody.

Vikram Rathore, batting coach of the Indian cricket team even confirmed the scenario in a virtual press conference. He said they had to bench Suryakumar Yadav due to his back spasms and Ishan Kishan came in. The idea to put him as the opener was a collective call where Rohit himself was a part. He further talked about their unwillingness to keep multiple lefthanders for the late middle overs.

    The drastic loss against NZ

The form of Indian players has been a great concern after the loss against Pakistan in their first match. Hence the encounter against Newzealand was important. However, India’s batting fell drastically against the Blackcaps as they could put up a total of 110 only on the board and lost the match by 8 wickets. The skipper, Virat Kohli admitted being not very brave in the match with both the bat and ball, in the post-match conference.
