GTA V Sales Surge as GTA VI Delayed to May 2026

Game delays often come with a silver lining, and the postponement of Grand Theft Auto VI appears to have allowed many players more time to enjoy GTA V. In a recent quarterly investor presentation, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, revealed that GTA V has now sold an incredible 215 million copies worldwide.

This is a significant jump from the 210 million that it had reported just three months ago, back in February, and would mean the 12-year-old game has shifted another five million copies in the last three months. To give some context, what an achievement this is, Monster Hunter Wilds—2025’s current top-selling game—has sold 10 million copies, attention only that Monster has been on shelves only since February of this year. GTA V still has a way to go before it reaches the two best-selling games of all time, but these figures are astounding.

This investor presentation was the first Take-Two event since the GTA VI delay was revealed. Despite the setback, the company highlighted its strong lineup of upcoming releases for 2025, including Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, emphasizing the gaming industry’s continued growth and excitement. Originally, the GTA VI release was predicted to be in 2025. Rockstar instead delayed the launch to May 26, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 for further development time to reach the high bar expected by fans.

Whilst the industry has been forced to stand by and wait however, Rockstar have just dropped a new trailer that previews a number of GTA VI’s new characters, areas and dazzling visuals to keep the hype levels high. This trailer has inspired a ton of fan speculation, academic analysis and, of course, theories on what the upcoming game will be like.
