GTA 5’s tenth anniversary is rapidly approaching, with less than a month till the game turns ten. The game’s antiquity, however, has not prevented it from being relevant in the gaming industry.

GTA 5 never ceases to amaze, having sold over 185 million units to date. This is Rockstar Games’ most successful release to date, with the game also topping the best-sellers rankings in Europe last month.

There is no shortage of interesting games in 2023, but last month in Europe, more people were interested in the latest Grand Theft Auto entry than fresh titles like Diablo 4 and Hogwarts Legacy. According to the survey, GTA 5 was the best-selling game in Europe in July. This means it easily outsold Diablo 4, FIFA 23, and Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2, giving the producer two entries in the top three best-selling games of the month.

It should be noted that the list does not include data for digital Nintendo game sales. With this data, The Legend of Zelda may have scored higher, but GTA 5 would have likely remained at the top.

Major GTA 5 discounts played a significant effect in the game’s current rank.

In comparison, the newest games are still significantly more expensive, giving the nearly decade-old release an advantage.

While GTA 5 is still running strong, rumours regarding Rockstar Games’ next major Grand Theft Auto release have begun. Take-Two has twice teased the April 2024 – March 2025 release date, implying that GTA 6 will be available to the general public in less than two years. On the 10th anniversary of GTA 5, fans are hoping for a little yet meaningful teaser for the game.
