    Everything you need to know about AFCON 2021

    The AFCON (African Cup of Nations) has started on January 9, 2022, with the hosts Burkina Faso and Cameroon at the Stade Omnisport Paul Biya, Olembe. Initially, the African Cup of Nations was ready to be conducted in 2021, however, the organizers of the tournament were forced to postpone the tournament concerning the COVID19 outbreak and eventually moved 1 year later in 2022, and now it has originally started.

    Teams and Players to Watch

    The defending champions Algeria are considered to be the favourites to win the AFCON for the second time in a row, the first victory of which came 2 years back in 2019. Besides eyes will also be on Senegal, who played the final match against Algeria in 2019, and also played a final match back in 2002. They have never won the competition and will be looking forward to doing the same this season.

    Some of the world-class stars will show their efficiency in the AFCON 2021. Mentionable names among those are Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, both being Liverpool forwards, joining Senegal and Egypt national teams respectively. Also, Man City’s Riyad Mahrez leaning Algeria and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey playing for Ghana will certainly be interesting to see.

    AFCON Start and End Dates

    The African Cup of Nations has kicked off from Sunday, January 9, 2022, and 5 matches have taken place till now, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Guinea, Senegal, and Morocco have secured the win, whereas Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Ghana facing the defeats respectively.

    More exciting games are coming and going to take place soon, as per the AFCON schedule, and it will indeed provide us with terrific entertainment in the violent pandemic situation all over the world. The final of the tournament is set to take place at the same ground as the tournament’s opener, i.e., in Stade Omnisport Paul Biya, on February 6, 2022.
