A humorous mix-up amongst the Vinohrady fielders, as the batsman sneaks three runs off a dot ball, has been making the rounds on social media platforms during a 10-over game between Prague Barbarians and Vinohrady. It was dubbed an “ECN (European Cricket Network) classic” by an on-air analyst.
It all started when Vinohrady bowler Arshad Hayat bowled a wide-of-off-stump delivery that the Barbarians hitter Jahanur Hoque missed in the third over of the first innings. Following the miss, the keeper attempted to stump the hitter with an underarm throw, but the stumps were missing. The running batters survived three runouts off the same delivery, which started a string of misplaced throws and blunders.
What mix-up happened actually?
Former Australia bowler Brad Hogg noted that Barbarians hitter Andrew Sim did not ground his bat when completing his runs, claiming that if he had, they may have run four. The Barbarians, on the other hand, lost the ten-over encounter by six wickets after Vinohrady chased down a target of 86.
Murali Vandrasi was highest with 37 runs in the first innings, and Sim added a crucial 18 runs. Extras marred the innings as well, with the Vinohrady bowlers conceding 13 wides, one no-ball, and five leg-byes. Joe Cope, on the other hand, bowled two tight overs, conceding only four runs and picking up one wicket. In his two overs, Hayat had the best stats, taking three wickets for 13 runs.
Kyle Gilham batted undefeated for Vinohrady, and his opening partner Siddarth Goud contributed only 13 runs. At number six, skipper Venkatesh Marghashayam hit an unbeaten 12 runs to enable them to knock down the target in 9.1 overs. Pankaj Pundir finished with one wicket for 17 runs in two overs for the Barbarians. In the innings, there were six wides and two no-balls.
Hogg retweeted a post, saying “A Sim needs to learn to ground his bat and save himself extra running. They could of got 4.”
