The developers behind Delta Force: Hawk Ops were inspired by the franchise’s popularity in China, particularly its presence in internet cafes. This passion for the series fuels their vision for the new title, aiming to deliver a worthy successor that stays true to the Delta Force roots.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Delta Force: Hawk Ops emphasizes strategic gameplay over fast-paced action. Players choose from various Operators with distinct abilities, requiring careful coordination and communication to succeed. Unlike some arcade-style shooters, Delta Force: Hawk Ops rewards players who take their time, observe their surroundings, and work together to achieve objectives.
Communication is paramount in Delta Force: Hawk Ops. The game features voice and text chat, along with a ping system for marking locations, items, and enemies. This collaborative approach extends to the extraction shooter mode, where teammates can revive each other, share loot from chests, and work towards a common goal.
Customization and Progression
While weapon customization is primarily done through in-game currency, the extraction shooter mode offers a twist. Players can loot attachments during matches and equip them directly to their weapons, adding a layer of strategic decision-making during firefights.
Progression in Havoc Warfare, the large-scale PvP mode, revolves around leveling up your character. Earning weapon experience cards allows players to upgrade specific firearms, similar to the system in Call of Duty Mobile. Unlike Call of Duty’s Pick 10 system, Delta Force: Hawk Ops offers more freedom, allowing players to equip two weapons with all available attachments.
Unlocking new Operators is achieved through in-game events and progression systems, ensuring all characters remain accessible without a paywall. However, the game does feature a battle pass with free and premium tiers, offering cosmetic rewards for dedicated players. Seasons are expected to last around six to eight weeks, introducing new maps, Operators, weapons, and vehicles to keep the gameplay fresh.
Bridging the Platform Divide
Delta Force: Hawk Ops is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 for the Black Hawk Down campaign mode to take advantage of its impressive visuals. The multiplayer modes utilize Unreal Engine 4 to ensure smooth performance across all platforms, including PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
The game aims to launch simultaneously on all platforms while maintaining separate matchmaking pools for mobile and PC/console players. To unify progression across platforms, players will utilize a Level Infinite account. The Early Access period kicks off in October on Steam, providing players with a chance to experience the game firsthand and offer valuable feedback to the developers.
For console players, Delta Force: Hawk Ops targets 4K resolution and a minimum of 60 frames per second, with the potential for unlocked frame rates. While confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the developers are exploring the possibility of bringing the game to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. PC players can expect the game to run smoothly on even lower-end machines with GTX 960 graphics cards.
The future looks bright for mobile players as well, with the developers confirming support for gyroscopic aiming, a popular feature in other mobile shooters like Call of Duty Mobile. While there are no current plans for Steam Deck compatibility, the team is open to supporting the platform in the future.
Black Hawk Down Reimagined
The Black Hawk Down campaign mode is a recreation of the classic film, featuring cut-scenes and even the original soundtrack. Initially planned as a single-player experience, the developers are now considering adding cooperative play for up to three players, making the campaign even more challenging and rewarding. Players won’t be taking control of specific characters from the film; instead, they’ll create their own Operators for the campaign mode.
