The release of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020 was bumpy, with players reporting several flaws and issues with the game, rendering it unplayable for a huge number of players. Many people who paid full price for the latest CD PROJEKT RED title demanded refunds as a result of this. The game was even deleted entirely from Sony’s digital store.
That was until February, when the PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades arrived, allowing users to finally play the game they had paid for two years before.
According to a tweet posted today on Twitter, the game has sold over 18 million copies, which is a remarkable achievement given the game’s origins. According to the graphic below, this statistic was valid as of April 14, 2022, and this estimate was based on data received from its distributors.
Cyberpunk 2077 to get new expansion next year
The company now appears to have defined its production intentions for the open-world RPG game. The intentions were revealed via a tweet, which included details on the development of an expansion, further support for the game, and future plans for other titles such as the forthcoming Witcher game.
In addition to the above development goals, the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter feed stated that the developer aims to release the upcoming expansion sometime in 2023 and that additional information will be released soon.
It’ll be intriguing to watch what new features emerge to Cyberpunk 2077 this year and next when the series finally (and hopefully) achieves its full potential.
