The Portuguese legend as well as one of the greatest sportsmen in the world of football, Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved the record of being the highest goal scorer in the history of international football.
The former record-holder was the Iranian legend Ali Daei, which Ronaldo broke on Wednesday. Portugal faced the Republic of Ireland in Faro. Though CR7 has nothing to prove, he again showed why he is called one of the greatest.
It was a World-Cup qualified match, where Iran got a one-goal lead in the 45 minutes of the match. Portugal was unable to score any goals for the 85 minutes. Suddenly he scored back-to-back goals in the 89th minute, which was an equalizer, and again in the additional time of 90+6 minutes.
He was a joint record holder with Iran’s Ali Daei with 109 international goals. After scoring the first one against Ireland, he became the individual record holder, which increased by one more goal when he netted the second one.
Ronaldo in this regard
Ronaldo said in an interview that he is so happy. And the happiness is not only for beating the record but also the special moment they all had together. He appreciated how his team performed in the match, and they believed until the end – he added.
Portugal’s position in the World Cup Qualifiers
At present, Portugal is sitting at the top in Group A. They played 4 matches acquiring 10 points in hand. Serbia in the same group is only 3 points behind Portugal, with one game left. The winners of the groups will qualify for the finals in Qatar, and the runners-up will appear to play in the playoffs. It is to be seen who gets the first two positions.
