Ultimately, in September 2021, Derby County entered the administration with a 12-point deduction in the EFL Championship 2021/22. Later, the club faced more nine-point deductions in the EFL Championship 2021/22 due to breaching EFL accounting rules.

The Rams actually earned 55 points at the end of this EFL Championship season – the joint 17th most points in the tournament that could easily save them from the relegation spot in the 24-team competition. But due to the massive 21 points deduction, Derby ultimately had 34 points with their relegation fate to the EFL League One.

Now, the Rams are focusing to work harder and come back to better positions in the upcoming seasons. The club is ready to get a boost with the new owners as the American entrepreneur Chris Kirchner is very close to buying this club.

Kirchner has already confirmed in his social media account about the work-in-progress to own this club. In the meantime, the EFL Board has just given conditional approval to the proposed acquisition of Derby County by the company CK Sports Holdings Limited, which is controlled by Kirchner. The final approval is subject to the Asset Purchase Agreement and a finalised deal of a lease on the stadium.
