The official Infinity Ward Twitter account appears to be previewing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the game’s reveal may be imminent. Modern Warfare 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot, which was one of the best-received Call of Duty games in recent years.
Following months of speculations and leaks, Activision and Infinity Ward revealed in February that Call of Duty 2022 would be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019. The game’s Warzone mode, according to Infinity Ward, will be a brand new experience, with a completely different map and a new sandbox mode. A new game engine will power both the regular game and the battle royale mode, hinting that the two might be published at the same time.
Infinity Ward appears to be aggressively hinting at a complete reveal of the so-called Modern Warfare 2 on Twitter, so it could be coming soon. The account has “gone dark,” with a black background for its profile picture and header, as is common before large firms release a highly anticipated game.
The header, on the other hand, isn’t just black; it appears to be a significantly darkened image of Ghost from Modern Warfare 2019. After complaints of sexist words and behaviour, Ghost’s voice actor was fired from the position, although the character will still play a key role in the Modern Warfare series’ future.
While Infinity Ward has yet to reveal the sequel’s official title, its most recent tweet suggests that the solution is obvious. According to multiple leaks and reports, the game will simply be called “Modern Warfare 2,” just as the 2009 sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
It could also be the final mainstream Call of Duty game until 2024, according to several claims that the annualized series’ entry for 2023 has been postponed, and that Activision is abandoning the yearly release pattern that has served it so well for so long.
Call of Duty would benefit from a new next-gen Modern Warfare game built on a new engine. Vanguard, the most recent instalment in the series, did not achieve the same sales milestones or attract and retain the same fan base as prior titles.
Despite its difficulties, Warzone has remained popular for years, but many fans say they haven’t been interested in conventional Call of Duty multiplayer since 2019. Hopefully, Modern Warfare 2 will remedy that by reintroducing the aspects of the reboot that people enjoyed
