According to various sources, Lucknow will be the second IPL team for the next India Premier League edition. Besides Ahmedabad, Lucknow might be the fortunate one to get inducted into IPL after Ahmedabad. It can be a good cricket destination and be a major cricket center. Also, the cricket board of India is planning to conduct a test match of India with the Kiwis at this venue.
IND vs NZ test
Reports state that the test match between India and New Zealand will be organized at the 70,000 people capacity stadium of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The series will take place with the completion of the T20 World Cup set to kick off in October in UAE. The men in blues will get a chance to avenge their defeat in the final of the World Test Championship.
The first test in Lucknow in 28 years
Lucknow will be hosting a test for the first time in 28 years. The last test match took here in 1994 versus Srilanka at the KDS Babu Stadium. It is the only test match that has ever taken place in this venue. BCCI has finalized the venues for the two tests against New Zealand, the first being in Lucknow at Atal Bihari Vajpayee stadium and the other will be conducted in the Chinnaswamy stadium of Bengaluru.
A BCCI official said in this regard that the stadium in Lucknow has a good capacity of 70,000 seats approximately, which is surely a good deal for any IPL team. Alongside Ahmedabad, Lucknow should be also be taken under the limelight.
A good number of international matches must take place here before it officially gets finalized as an IPL franchise. Even when the T20 world cup was ready to take place in India, the Lucknow stadium was also shortlisted for a venue, the official added.
