    Barcelona: A summary of Spotify’s huge sponsorship contract with Barcelona

    Barcelona confirmed on March 15, 2022, that Spotify will become the club’s principal sponsor this summer. Barcelona’s historic stadium will be renamed the Spotify Camp Nou for the first time in the club’s history. The agreement will endure through the end of the 2025/26 season, but it must be approved by an EGM on Sunday, April 3.

    Shirt and the Stadium

    Since 2017, Rakuten, an online shopping firm, has sponsored the men’s squad, while Stanley Black & Decker, a tools and storage company, became the official shirt sponsor of the women’s team in 2018. Barcelona shirts were famous for not having any sponsors until 2006 when it signed an agreement with UNICEF.

    The figures behind this multi-million-euro purchase have been exposed by Mundo Deportivo and Sport. The jersey sponsorship will bring in 57.5 million euros per season, with 2.5 million euros in variables bringing in 60 million euros per season, for a total of 240 million euros over four seasons.

    Barcelona will also earn 5 million euros from Spotify’s sponsorship of their training equipment over the next three years.

    Meanwhile, Barcelona will receive five million euros per season until the Espai Barça renovations are done, thanks to Spotify’s acquisition of the naming rights to Camp Nou. According to the sources, they will be paid 20 million euros per season for the next eight years of the contract.

    Value of Barcelona’s Spotify deal

    The deal contains the naming rights to the stadium (retitled as Spotify Camp Nou), the front of the shirt for the men’s and women’s teams, and the men’s training shirt, as well as numerous small deals such as advertising space in the stadium and promotional acts with male and female players. Barca members will end up voting on the agreement next Sunday.

    According to sources, the deal has been valued at a total of €435 million. The shirt sponsorship will cost €240 million till 2027. The three-year training shirt will cost €15 million.

    Spotify will pay €5 million over four years (for development work) for the new stadium, and it is expected that by the fifth year, the price would have risen to €20 million over eight years. €180 million in total. The €240 million for the match shirt, the €15 million for the training shirt, and the €180 million for the stadium total €435 million.
