The Aussies have defeated the Englishmen and have retained their ashes title. It was indeed a whitewash defeat for England and Australia were phenomenal in their performance. They did take the benefit of playing in their home ground to the fullest.
In the 5 test series, they won the first two and took the series in their pocket by emerging victoriously in the third on December 28, at the MCG. They won by an innings and 14 runs to give England a humiliating defeat. Captain Joe Root and his team faced an embarrassing decline in the batting order and they were bowled out for 68 runs in their second innings.
Scott Boland – A new talent
Local boy Scott Boland had a phenomenal match being able to take an iconic 5 wicket haul, which has been the main reason behind England’s collapse. With this, he became the joint-fastest bowler to take a fifer being a stand out player on debut.
Embarrassing defeat for England in the Ashes
England will certainly look forward to giving a reply to the Aussies in the remaining two test matches, after a humiliating series defeat in the ashes. They equalled the previous record of theirs’ which was scoring most ducks in a calendar year, 54 times, in 1998. Also, they equalled Bangladesh’s record of losing most test matches in a year, which is 9.
Joe Root in their last innings of the match was the highest scorer with 28 runs, and Ben Stokes was the only one apart from Root to reach double figures. Seeing the present performances of the two teams, former Australian captain Ricky Pointing has said that Australia will win the series by 5-0.
The fourth and fifth test matches are going to take place in Sydney and Hobart respectively. It is to be seen that whether Australia continues to dominate England or the Englishmen counter attacks the Aussies.
