    Anupam Tripathi, the Squid Game Indian actor has gained immense popularity: “I was not prepared”

    Anupam Tripathi is an Indian-origin South-Korean-based actor, who has recently become a world-famous name due to the new series named Squid Game, which was released on Netflix. He said that he was in shock by seeing the immense popularity of the show. Tripathi has played the role of Ali on Netflix’s show.

    The Squid Game is created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and it has become a global phenomenon. It is basically about a Hunger Games-like competition that tempts the common people who are actually in debt and promises them a load of money if they win. But the consequences are deadly if they lose- literally. Anyone who does not progress to the next round ends up dead.

    Anupam Tripathi while taking with Variety has said that “We felt that it will be received well, but when it became a phenomenon and sensation, it was not expected – I was not prepared.” He was grown in New Delhi.

    He further added that his popularity has escalated after the show was premiered. “I still remember, September 17, 2021, 4 p.m., my life was OK, but after 5 p.m., it became huge, humongous — suddenly everyone was messaging me and it was ‘Ali,’ ‘Ali'”.

    Anupam has played the role of Ali who is a poor immigrant from Pakistan. The story shows us his entry into the contest in order to provide for his family after his employer refuses him payment for his services. The actor has also revealed his preparation for the role. He said that while he was cast for the role, he do not have the correct body shape and had to put on weight as Ali is known in the show for his strength. “I gained 5 or 6 kilograms and at least looked like somebody who has some power,” he revealed.

    Anupam’s “ultimate dream” is to perform in India as he told the publication, “I’ve done theater only in India, but I want to see and explore how I will do in my own language. I would love to express myself there. That is my ultimate dream – to perform in front of my own home and own audience.”
