Andrea Agnelli, the president of Juventus, has stated that he will not ‘give up’ on the much-maligned European Super League ideas and that his team is now “larger than anyone” as a result of Cristiano Ronaldo’s sale.
The ill-fated breakaway attempt lasted only two days, with the majority of the 12 clubs pulling out after a public outcry. Those in charge of the plans, on the other hand, are dead set on changing the sport’s image.
Agnelli is one of the central characters in the story, and he has reiterated his controversial claim that the system needs ‘reform.’ Agnelli spoke at a Juventus shareholders’ meeting today, touching on a variety of themes, including the Super League and Ronaldo.
Agnelli said: “The Super League, the consequences on ECA and UEFA, and the roles held for Real Madrid, Barcelona – today we are waiting for a ruling by the European Court of Justice.”
According to reports, UEFA has warned that the Super League is a “continuing and existential danger to the foundations and destiny of European football.” Even though the regulatory body has dropped legal proceedings against the three teams involved in the breakaway, namely Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus, this is the case.
UEFA acknowledged that judicial procedures have been ruled ‘null and void,’ and that each of the clubs is still involved in the plans despite the withdrawal of the other nine. In the meanwhile, before leaving for Manchester United in the summer, Agnelli praised his experience working with Ronaldo.
Agnelli, who scored 101 goals in 134 games for the Old Lady, was eager to point out that the club is more important than any individual. ‘It was an honor and a pleasure,’ he added. ‘And if we think about what has been on the field, we cannot symbolically applaud Cristiano and thank him for the joys.
