The Treble winners, Manchester City, are much confident about breaking the £700million revenue barrier this season – setting a British record and blowing rivals United out of the water in the process. The Red Devils, i.e., Manchester United, currently hold this record when they brought in £627m in 2018-19, and earlier this week, Old Trafford officials announced that they will top that with a forecast of between £630m and £640m for the current year.
However, it doesn’t seem like the record will be retained for too long now as their neighbours i.e., Manchester City believe that they will rake in more than £700m on the back of what has been a historic season of success at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola.
Will Manchester City really make a new revenue barrier?
Manchester City are themselves hopeful that they will break the barrier this season, as cash from broadcasting, media and commercial will make up the bulk of a sum that will further enhance City’s standing at the top of football’s rich list – with £300m generated from their march to glory in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
The final figure may well fall short of the world record of £726m set by Barcelona in 2020 ahead of their financial crisis. However, City are expected to reap the dividends from their European glory in Istanbul beyond the end of the reporting campaign, that ends this month.
What greater in Manchester City’s perspective is that, their retail numbers for 2022-23 are up 81 per cent while their new home kit has exceeded previous season sales by 84 per cent since it launched on May 19.
Prize money is also significant, with money in the pot from their successes in Europe, the Premier League and FA Cup. When television money and ticket sales is added, their Champions League victory alone was worth a staggering £113m. And besides, commercial revenues are there too.
