Cincinnati Bengals’ star quarterback Joe Burrow might become the highest-paid player in NFL history. Burrow, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner, and LSU graduate, is a top quarterback in the league.
Joe Burrow is on track to become the highest-paid player in NFL history
Joe Burrow missed his rookie season due to injury, following which he came back in 2021 to lead the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams by a small margin with the score 23-20.
Moreover, Burrow is the only quarterback with a winning record against two-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, where he defeated him three times in their four meetings. As an outcome, the Bengals are already negotiating a tempting deal that could make Burrow the highest-paid player ever in NFL history.
Jeremy Flower, ESPN, spoke about this matter.
“The Bengals have started the process of signing Joe Burrow. They have initiated that negotiation process with Burrow and his agents. Now, for such a complex agreement, there will be many ups and downs. Probably many counterproposals, but at least the ball is rolling, and I have been told that the Bengal’s plan is clear.
They want to lock up Joe Burrow so they can also focus on the core. Tee Higgins is a receiver they consider elite and would like to sign an extension. Linebacker Logan Wilson is as well. So, a very busy and expensive summer for the Cincinnati Bengals.”
He could earn $52 million per season
As Fowler suggests, in case Burrow follows the trend of current quarterback deals, the 26-year-old star could possibly earn over $52 million per season, which is higher than what Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson would have sought.
