Xavi Hernandez wants Barcelona to get back to basics, and one area where he wants to emphasize is on the wings, with the new head coach hoping to re-sign Francisco Trincao from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Only the injured Ousmane Dembele is an out-and-out elite winger in Xavi’s team, while AnsuFati and Philippe Coutinho can also play in this position but are not traditional wingers like Trincao or Dembele.
Yusuf Demir is on loan from Rapid Wien, while SerginoDest might be converted to a right-winger, as Ronald Koeman attempted towards the conclusion of his time at the Camp Nou.
Memphis Depay and Martin Braithwaite are currently being considered for the No.9 position, even though the Dutchman has played in this position at Manchester United and Lyon.
Xavi wants Trincao
According to the Portuguese publication Record, Xavi wants Trincao’s season-long loan at Wolves to be cut short. The issue is that the 21-year-old is under contract at Molineux until June 30 and is a key member of Bruno Lage’s squad.
Trincao was loaned to Wolves for six million euros last summer, so Barcelona will almost certainly have to pay a fee if he returns to the club sooner than expected. Former manager Ronald Koeman did not always trust the 21-year-old and frequently used him out of position, meaning he was never able to establish himself at the club.
About Trincao
In his first season with the Blaugrana, Trincao scored three goals and added two assists in 42 games. When the summer transfer market opened earlier this year, Koeman moved quickly to send him on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers of the Premier League, where he has been playing regularly.
Trincao has made nine appearances for Wolves in all competitions under the tutelage of compatriot Bruno Lage, scoring a solitary goal in the process. While his performances haven’t exactly lit the world on fire, the youngster has shown glimpses of building confidence that comes with playing regularly.
