Wriddhiman Saha rules out making a comeback in Team India

Wriddhiman Saha, who is inconsolable, has put an end to any chance of an India return. Rahul Dravid directly informed him that he will not be a part of Team India’s plans after he was cut from the team during the New Zealand series. Saha, despite having a strong IPL 2022 performance, was not invited back, and the veteran wicketkeeper claims that the door for Team India is now shut to him.

Wriddhiman Saha, a top player for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the just-completed Indian Premier League (IPL), has spoken out about his prospective future with the Indian side. While he has left the door open for a prospective Ranji spell away from Bengal, Saha claims that he is unlikely to make a comeback into the Indian team.

“I don’t think I will be selected going further because already the coach and the chief selector had informed me. And if they had to pick me, after my IPL performance, I would have been included in the squad for England tour,” – said Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha, a top player for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the just-completed Indian Premier League (IPL), has spoken out about his prospective future with the Indian side. Saha claims that because he has left the door open for the possibility of playing in the Ranji tournament outside of Bengal, he is unlikely to rejoin the Indian squad.

Since MS Dhoni’s departure from the Test format in 2015, the Bengal-born wicketkeeper has been a regular member of the Indian side. Rishabh Pant and KS Bharat, two young players, have now made their debuts, and he has since lost his spot in the starting XI. His numerous ailments and inconsistent hitting with the bat also did not assist his case.

Saha last played for India against New Zealand in December 2021. He was then benched for the South Africa trip and the home series against Sri Lanka.  However, even at the age of 38, after helping the Gujarat Titans win their first IPL title with 311 runs in 11 games, many anticipated a return, especially in light of Dinesh Karthik’s recall.

Saha had an outstanding IPL 2022 season, scoring 317 runs in 11 games. The GT opener also scored three fifties, with 68 runs being the top total. Furthermore, Hardik Pandya, who was instrumental in GT’s victory in the IPL, received high appreciation from Saha. In the forthcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland, Hardik will serve as captain of the Indian team.
Saha commended Hardik for playing the role at four and for his adaptability with the bat.

Saha has discussed opportunities outside of Bengal as he reflects on his career on the home circuit. In a heated argument with the CAB before the Ranji Trophy began, the wicketkeeper decided not to represent the state, where they advanced to the Ranji Trophy semifinals. He could choose Tripura as his final stop, but he will consider his alternatives first after being teased to represent it.

Saha was also embroiled in a dispute with journalist Boria Majumdar, who had requested an interview from him. Saha then posted screenshots of the exchange on her social media accounts.

Meanwhile, with a 2-1 lead in the Test series, India will begin its quest for victory. At Edgbaston on July 1, India will play host to England.
