The BCCI has started getting amazing deals for the WIPL Media Rights tender. the deadline for the purchase date was 31st December. More than 10 parties that included Disney Star, Sony Network, and Viacom18 have shown interest. The interested parties will have to submit their closed bids by January 12.
After the media rights tender, the board will be selling the WIPL franchises. The BCCI has not kept a base price for the media Rights Tender but after the winner is finalized, they will come out with a tender to sell the WIPL franchises.
“We will be coming with franchise rights tender once Media Rights Tender is completed. We feel that is how the potential bidders can give us REAL VALUE for the franchises”, a BCCI official said
The Media Rights tender will be for the 2023-2027 period. Unlike IPL, it will be a closed bidding process to award the media rights for the Women’s IPL. There’s a huge revenue expectation from the WIPL league. ‘The upcoming Women IPL League can generate 1000 Crore plus at Auction for each franchise’– said a BCCI franchise. The player salary purse for Women players can go up to 40 crores per franchise.
“It’s a new product but an established concept. Just see the response we are getting for INDIA vs Australia series. This clearly shows Women’s Cricket has huge growth potential. We are sure each franchise can fetch 1000 Crore plus. Players will be suitably paid and each franchise can have a player purse of 35-40 Crore” a top BCCI official confirmed
The base price for each franchise is going to be Rs. 400 crore. The BCCI is planning to sell WIPL teams based on zones and conduct the games at non-IPL venues. If this goes as per plan, the BCCI can raise between Rs. 6000 to Rs. 8000 crores from just the sale of the franchises.
The IPL team owners have shown interest to buy the teams but other parties from the outside have also shown interest. More preference will be given to an existing franchise owner. This league will have five franchises that will play a total of 22 games and each team will have 18 foreign players. In a team, a total of six foreign players will be allowed.
The league will have 20 matches in WIPL and the team at the top of the table will go straight to the finale. The teams finishing second and third situation will be playing in the semifinal. The one winning this will be the second finalist.
