Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is the spiritual successor to the well-known Warhammer Vermintide video games. As the Swedish developer Fatshark switches from one to the other, the fantasy Warhammer setting is being replaced with the sci-fi Warhammer 40K universe.
Although Fatshark officially delayed the game’s release until Spring 2022, it had been planned for a 2021 window at the time of the first announcement. The official release date for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide was then set to September 13, 2022, after a shorter delay.
The Xbox Series S|X, PC (Steam), and Microsoft Store will all be able to access the game. Cross-play will not be supported at launch, not even between users of the Microsoft Store and Steam, though the developers did say they are looking into it.
The normal edition will be a part of Game Pass subscriptions and is currently available for pre-order for $39.99.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a first-person action game with a focus on cooperative play, much to the Vermintide games.
The game takes place in Tertium, a hive metropolis in the Atoma Prime world. Atoma Prime serves as the hub of the Moebian Domain, a significant collection of imperial worlds that produce vast quantities of goods for the Imperium of Man. The Darktide, which consists of the Xenos (hostile alien races) and Daemons (forces of Chaos), is a danger to the borders of the Moebian Domain. To protect against these threats, multiple Astra Militarum regiments were founded on Atoma Prime.
However, the so-called Admonition cult ultimately assisted Nurgle, the Lord of Decay, in sending Chaos forces to infiltrate Tertium. The celebrated Moebian Sixth was among the aforementioned troops that joined Chaos. The player characters and a few other captives, including those sent to Tertium by a Lord Inquisitor, are then ordered to serve as Inquisition agents.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is written by renowned novelist Dan Abnett, whose works have appeared in a variety of fictional settings, including Marvel, DC, Doctor Who, Warhammer/Warhammer 40,000, 2000 AD, and Tomb Raider. He worked with Creative Assembly on the video game Alien: Isolation.
Darktide also has over 75K voiced lines to keep the party banter interesting dependent on the situation, the makeup of the party, the player character’s status within the Inquisition, and other factors.
As was already revealed, the gameplay will primarily mirror that of the Vermintide games. Players will run against a lot of common enemies, a few Elite foes, and a few Special foes. There is, however, one key difference: Due to the scenario, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide places a much more emphasis on ranged combat. Darktide plans to focus almost equally on melee and ranged combat, in contrast to the two Vermintide games’ almost sole emphasis on melee.
In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, microtransactions are made with the premium coin Aquilas. While certain cosmetic goods will be unlocked through meeting in-game objectives like going through the story, the majority will be purchased with real-world money through the in-game shop.
Furthermore, according to Fatshark, they are open to adding various forms of in-game products in the future. They spoke of the popularity of Weapon Packs in Vermintide 2.
