    Vedanta and IITB join hands to develop Green Steel Technology

    Recently, Vedanta-Iron and Steel Business teamed up with IIT Bombay (IIT-B) on a research and development effort to create an affordable method for creating green steel using hydrogen with the goal of significantly reducing carbon footprint in the iron and steel industry.

    The exchange of knowledge and technology for process innovation and excellence will continue to be a focus of the partnership between Vedanta-Iron and Steel and IITB.

    Sujal Shah, CEO of Sesa Goa Iron Ore Business, Vedanta Limited, and Prof. Arindam Sarkar, IIT-B, together with the project team, presided over the first project kick-off meeting between the leadership team of Vedanta-Iron and Steel and senior executives.

    The goal of this engagement with IIT-B is to produce a benchmark transformation in the steel making process. This is in keeping with Vedanta’s wider objective of attaining carbon neutral operations by 2050 and the country’s larger vision of creating Green Hydrogen.

    Over the years, Vedanta’s Iron and Steel Business has carried out a number of high-impact initiatives to adopt the most sustainable business practises. These initiatives include the systematic reclamation of one of the largest open cast iron ore mines in Goa, the generation of 60 MW of clean energy through waste heat recovery power plants, cutting-edge environmental management techniques, and much more.
