Newcastle United’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Cambridge United on Saturday will leave a blemish on the club’s season, but manager Eddie Howe is determined to move forward with his plans for the club, with five more signings planned for January.
Five Position to Sign
Kieran Trippier joined Atletico Madrid in the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund’s inaugural deal, though keep in mind that this money is intended to be completely distinct from the Saudi Arabian government.
Howe wants more players to join this month to strengthen the club’s chances of avoiding relegation this season, with a particular emphasis on forward players given Callum Wilson’s injury. According to The Athletic, the former Bournemouth manager wants to address five positions: a striker, a left-back, two central defenders, and another attacker.
Lille has turned down two offers for Sven Botman, and the Dutch defender is now certain to stay in France until the end of the season, forcing Newcastle to modify their strategy. Sevilla’s Diego Carlos is attracting attention, as is Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, who has been brilliant in the Championship this season.
Availability of Players
The Newcastle Chronicle reports that the club is interested in signing Reims forward Hugo Ekitike, who is 19 years old. Burnley’s Chris Wood would be a unique attacking option because of his height and aerial skills, and the club would be willing to sell him for the right price.
Lucas Digne’s relationship with Everton has completely broken down, and he is expected to leave Goodison Park in January. However, with Chelsea declining to make an offer for the former PSG player, Aston Villa has taken the lead. There are few better left-backs than Digne, and Newcastle would be making a significant upgrade if they could entice him with the high contract.
