The January transfer window will shut on January 31, which means that teams still have a few days to enhance their rosters before the season’s final stretch. Dusan Vlahovic joined Juventus, and Newcastle has been particularly busy, but several players’ fates are still up in the air, and they could go in January.
Alvaro Morata
Vlahovic’s arrival at the Old Lady might clear the way for Morata to join Barcelona, who must clear space in their wage cap to sign the Spain international. Barcelona would have already reached an agreement with Morata if they had been able to sell some players and persuade Atletico Madrid to sell the 29-year-old striker.
Ousmane Dembele
Xavi Hernandez has benched the Frenchman in Barcelona’s previous two games because he has yet to reach an agreement with the club on a potential contract extension, despite his current contract expiring in June. A few clubs have emerged as potential suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, and a January exit has not been ruled out.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Due to a disciplinary breach in December, the Gabonese international was deprived of his captaincy, and he was practising alone before joining his national squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
He was forced to return to England owing to a cardiac problem after contracting COVID-19, and he is looking to try his luck abroad. Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia sought to sign him, but the 32-year-old striker prefers to stay in Europe.
Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle are willing to bolster their midfield with the prospective arrival of the 24-year-old midfielder, following the signings of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley.
The Magpies have made an offer of 40 million euros to Lyon for Guimaraes’ services, and according to L’Equipe, all that is needed now is for the player to consent to the transfer.
Donny van de Beek
Van de Beek has only played 68 minutes of Premier League football this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, who refuses to let him go. Crystal Palace and Valencia have both asked about the player in the meantime.
Luis Diaz
The 25-year-old winger has been a standout performer for Porto this season, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing him, although the Reds appear to be the frontrunners.
Julian Alvarez
In exchange for 18.5 million euros, the River Plate forward will join the Sky Blues. Alvarez will join the Argentine club on a season-long loan before joining Manchester City in the summer.
Adama Traore
Barcelona are close to agreeing on a loan deal for the Spain international with Wolverhampton Wanderers, although Tottenham Hotspur was also interested in signing the 26-year-old winger.
Bryan Gil
Following his summer transfer to Spurs from Sevilla, the former Sevilla winger has only played 86 minutes of Premier League football. Real Sociedad and Valencia are also interested in signing him, but Spurs have requested a 1.5 million euro loan fee to allow him to leave.
Diego Costa
After leaving Atletico Mineiro, the 33-year-old attacker is looking for a new club. Salernitana and Corinthians are among the clubs interested in signing him.
