Electronic Arts is celebrating a quarter-century of The Sims, a life simulation game that has pulled in players who might not ordinarily give gaming a thought. This humble series began with basic Comic Sans text and has transformed into one of the highest-selling video game franchises of all time, spanning millions of players around the globe.

To celebrate the milestone, EA has released various exciting updates and special deals. The Sims 1 and 2 were part of a Birthday Bundle release. But those releases have not gone without issue. Both games seem to fail to boot on some consoles and crash frequently even when they do boot. That has led to general frustration from the gaming community. EA has said it is aware of these issues and plans to release updates to fix them.

The Sims 1 and 2 are both accessible on the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam if Windows 10 and 11 users face technical difficulties. And for The Sims 4, one of the biggest updates is rolling out today with 70 new in-game items available to everyone. Plus, The Sims 4 will have a special “Blast From the Past” in front of the end within the expansion pack, where players can honor their past moments and will get new cuteness input.

Players of The Sims FreePlay can also participate in special events and claim 25 days worth of various in-game gifts, including some iconic items from the series’ past. For those looking for physical memorabilia, a limited edition merchandise collection has been released, including retro pins, a 2000s-themed gamer mat, and t-shirts.

Finally, to celebrate the 25th anniversary, a 25-hour livestream will take place on The Sims’ YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels, featuring giveaways, gameplay, and appearances by notable figures like Doja Cat and Trixie Mattel. The stream kicks off at 2 PM PST / 5 PM ET / 10 PM GMT.
