A Panini card which was used in play, for a young Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been sold to a massive amount of 60,000 pounds. An Italian company created the card during the 2002/03 season when the young blood stepped into the football world, and now he has become a legend and has stepped to his 37th birthday a few days back. He made his football debut for Sporting Lisbon, and it is the earliest playing card for the Portuguese.
The majority of the cards from his initial days into the football world were either discarded or destroyed and at present only 200 known examples exist. From that 200, only 20 of them are in mint condition, which makes them indeed very valuable.
Ronaldo Mesmerizing with his efficiency
Following those were issued, the 18-year-old CR7 mesmerized Sir Alex Ferguson when the Portuguese team emerged victoriously over the Red Devils, Manchester United by a score of 3-1, in 2003. The then manager of Man United signed the then-upcoming legend for a value of 12 million pounds.
The spotless card features a youthful profile of the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, and it was sold on Sunday night with a winning bid of 59,000 pounds or 80,000 dollars.
Jamie Salt in this regard
The director of Goldin, Jamie Salt said in this regard that that card features one of the greatest footballers of all time in his earliest officially licensed trading card, else known in the industry as a card of “true cookie”. The card was a part of a set exclusively produced for the Portuguese market only, in Italy.
Jamie Salt also added that not many examples of this valuable card will have survived through these years, with numerous people throwing or burning them, and even lesser copies would have survived in the mint condition.
Around 200 examples of this card have been graded by the PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator). This is only one of those 22 copies in existence to have been provided the Gem Mint by the PSA, signifying that the card is practically flawless.
