The most recent and highest-end OLED displays, such as those found on top-end 2022 flagship smartphones, are frequently touted as having “LTPO 2.0,” a new component rated to improve refresh rates. Unlike their predecessors, their screens can refresh at high frequency (measured in hertz (Hz)) for demanding applications like high-speed scrolling or gaming, but they can also refresh at 1Hz when necessary, such as when an always-on display option is enabled.
These specifications are said to confer flicker resistance while also saving battery life because the display intelligently uses just the energy required for each operation.
If these new displays (the majority of which are Samsung’s E5 generation) have a flaw, it’s that their refresh rates are limited to 120Hz; as a result, even more, realistic gaming that is gentler on the eyes is out of reach.
But, it seems a company has found a solution to this display problem
TCL’s China Star Optoelectronics (or CSOT) subsidiary may have a solution for this problem in the form of a next-generation AMOLED LTPO panel with a minimum refresh rate of 1Hz and a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. It is now also expected to come with a WQHD resolution.
It will also have 30Hz and 60Hz intermediate gears, as well as CSOT’s unique micro-prism light-gathering (MLP) technology to supplement its LTPO battery-saving capabilities. TCL hasn’t said when this new panel type would be accessible to devise manufacturers.
