Star Wars Jedi Survivor will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. To the chagrin of many previous-gen owners, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order was published solely for current-gen consoles in early 2023. While the gameplay has essentially remained the same, game director Stig Asmussen stated in an earlier interview that Respawn was heading directly to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to take full advantage of those systems’ greater processors and memory.
While Xbox Series X/S and PS5 owners were overjoyed with the long-awaited sequel, PC owners were less so. The PC port of Star Wars Jedi Survivor was a problematic mess that ran poorly and had significant frame rate dips, making it practically unplayable at launch. Time has passed, and the team has released many patches to smooth out the gameplay, but there is still a question about whether the game’s optimization was handled appropriately.
The production of last-gen versions of Star Wars Jedi Survivor for PS4 and Xbox One appears to be an unexpected decision by Respawn and Electronic Arts.
During an earnings call, EA said that developer Respawn is in the early stages of porting the game to the aforementioned consoles. While no more remarks have been made addressing any differences between the current-gen and impending last-gen versions, many fans are ecstatic to hear this news.
Despite the continued development announcement, Respawn has stated that it is continuing to reinforce and optimize the game’s existing PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S editions. Patch 6.5 of Star Wars Jedi Survivor is now available, with several fixes and improvements. Once Respawn has ironed out the bugs in the current version, it might serve as the foundation for the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
