Fans of the beloved show and beloved game have certainly had some debate about this announcement. Critics have derided the collaboration as an affront to the show’s themes of the struggle to survive in a capitalist dystopia, where money pits people against one another.
But then, this just only add to the conversation, as Netflix released Squid Game Season 2 on December 26, 2024. The rumor of a premium pass came from a screenshot posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by user xFleXy_, The screenshot allegedly displays an in-game message that says:
“Squid Game arrives in Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Explore an exhilarating Event Pass, where the Premium Track route allows for more incredible rewards, including the Front Man Operator. Plus, a myriad of LTMs will feature signature sinister takes on Red Light/Green Light mechanics.”
That means free-to-play pass holders may be getting access to more rewards, but LTMs will feature gameplay inspired by Squid Game challenges. The premium pass has received widespread criticism from players, including fans who spent $70 or more on Black Ops 6. It seems unjustifiable to some in a paid title versus something like Warzone, Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale.
