Spanish star footballer David de Gea has been named as the Player of the Month in the English Premier League and has secured this award as the first goalkeeper in six years. The Spaniard has incredibly made 22 saves in four matches for the Red Devils, i.e., Manchester United, and bears great contribution in assisting his club, moving into the top four of the tournament. The last time a goalkeeper won this award was back in February 2016, who was Fraser Forster from Southampton.
Efficiency by David de Gea
It is for the first time that David de Gea has been awarded the Premier League’s Player of the year award in his 11 year career at Manchester United. He topped a six-man list which was made in January, featuring Kevin De Bruyne, Jarrod Bowen, Jack Harrison, James Ward Prowse, and Joao Moutinho, alongside him.
At the start of the month, De Gea showed his great efficiency against the Wolves, by performing some crucial saves before Moutinho scored one in the 82nd minute. Following that, the Wolves took an impressive victory over Southampton, which was 3-1, and then defeated Brentford by a score of 2-1.
De Gea kept a clean sheet in January, much like he did for the rest of the Premier League season, and he indeed produced some terrific performances last month. Following his terrific performance against the Wolves, he also executed some incredible saves against Ashton Villa, however, the match was drawn to 2-2. The same performance he did against Brentford, where the Red Devils secured the win by a score of 3-1.
Deserving Candidate for the Honor
Not only did it end against Brentford, but David de Gea continued his form against West Ham as well, where Man United picked up the win by 1-0. In the struggling season of Manchester United, David de Gea has still proved his efficiency and has looked incredible throughout the season. Overall, in the present season, the Spaniard has the most saves in the Premier League, which is 84.
