Sega Launches Account System With Rewards, Starting With Pirate Yakuza Outfit in Like a Dragon: Hawaii

Announced via Sega’s official website, the Sega Account offers players a unified profile to access exclusive benefits across Sega and Atlus titles. Upon signing up, users will get updates on all of the latest games, events, and promotions as well as unlock bonuses and link accounts across multiple gaming platforms. The first benefit for account holders is a Special Outfit for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Kazuma Kiryu, which will let the second Yakuza-hold Goro Majima wear the Yakuza’s redoubtable human face.

Previously a reward for people who signed up for notifications via email, the outfit is now being handed out to anyone who registers a Sega Account between January 22 and March 7. Codes for the costume will be distributed from February 17 to March 7. The game, itself, comes out on February 21, which is a week earlier than the initial February 28 release date to avoid competing with Monster Hunter Wilds.

Although Sega has not shared any information regarding future rewards, there is speculation that Sega Account will tie in rewards for some of its big franchises, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Persona. It could also help set the stage for a subscription service like Xbox Game Pass, which Sega is allegedly considering.

The Sega Account could be the account needed to interface with the upcoming Sega “Super Game,” a major global project which will expand over the next several years, until March 2026. While details remain sparse, fans hope that it could act as a platform for more than one title, similar to Call of Duty’s unified platform or Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Infinity. The Sega Account could be instrumental to the company’s strategies when it comes to delivering new experiences in the 2020s as Sega explores opportunities afforded by subscription services and expands its online infrastructure.
